Who we are
A community consecrated to the peace of Christ
Based in the Diocese of Miao, the association includes priests, brothers, and lay people in good standing — Catholics who wish to share in its purposes — under the patronage of Our Lady of Fatima.
To develop all the potentialities of Baptism and to bear more abundant fruits, the Missionaries of Peace give themselves to God in Christ. Their religious life is, therefore, the most perfect implementation of Baptism and the fullness of the most authentic Christian life.
Our charism
To promote the peace ministry of Jesus Christ
The specific charism of the Missionaries of Peace is to promote the Peace Ministry of Jesus Christ through the practice of interreligious dialogue and ecumenism in the multi-religious and pluri-cultural context of our country, to establish peace and love.
It is to share the universal love of Jesus with all the members of humanity, and even with nature, and to work together to create a society of justice, love, peace, harmony, and prosperity — and thus to “recapitulate everything in Christ” (Eph. 1:10).
Inspired by Christ, our peace
Blessed are the peacemakers
The Missionaries of Peace draw their inspiration and strength from the words and deeds of Jesus Christ, the only Mediator between God and human beings. Hence our motto is taken from His Sermon on the Mount:
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. Matthew 5:9
From the beginning to the end of His ministry on earth, Jesus stressed peace as His special gift to His followers. At the time of His birth the angels sang, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace to all men of good will” (Lk. 2:14). Towards the end of His earthly life He told His disciples, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you” (Jn. 14:27). And after His resurrection He greeted them, “Peace be with you” (Jn. 20:21, 26).
The way of dialogue
How Jesus enters into dialogue
Jesus has shown us how to enter into dialogue with others. His dialogue with the Samaritan woman (Jn. 4:1–26), with the centurion (Mt. 8:5–13), and with the Canaanite woman (Mt. 15:21–28); His dealings with those called public sinners; and His many parables — the Good Samaritan, the lost sheep, the prodigal son, the publican and the tax collector — all show that He came to “call the sinners and not the righteous” and offers peace to every section of society.
True peace can be fully realized only in the Messianic Kingdom, where the vertical relationship to God the Father and the horizontal relationship to all His children and creation are perfectly experienced. Even one's enemies are included in the commandment of Jesus, to “love one another as I have loved you” (Jn. 15:12).
Peace with oneself, with God, with others, and with nature is necessary for the harmonious living together of all humans on this planet.
Patronage & observances
Under the mantle of Our Lady of Fatima
Our principal patroness is Our Lady of Fatima, the Queen of Peace, who has initiated a movement of peace in the world and in the Church, and who has asked us to pray and work for peace.
- 1 January — the principal feast: the Motherhood of Our Lady and the World Day of Peace.
- 13 May — the feast of Our Lady of Fatima, solemnly celebrated, on which the members make and renew their promises.
In service and communion
Sensitive to the world, united with the Church
The Missionaries of Peace show particular sensitivity to the problems of the world through interreligious dialogue. Holding a right concept of dialogue as a means of human concern, the members share the sufferings of the poor, after the example of our Lord Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve. They offer their lives in a spirit of service, to promote peace to all.
So that the internal life of the Society and the apostolic works entrusted to us may remain peaceful and clear, we hold that every activity is carried out in complete harmony of thought and action with the Sacred Magisterium of the Roman Pontiff and the bishops united with him. The Missionaries of Peace recall the teaching of Pope Francis, affirming the need to bring peace and love through interreligious dialogue.
